There are many ways of being inspired to move closer to your goals. Reading a success story for instance. Although what I find when I read about someone else’s success is that I feel inspired to do something myself, but then I get into a “thinking spin”, trying to come up with ideas and getting despondent when nothing comes right away.
This is where I think conversation is king and I don’t mean small talk. I am no good at that. The stranger on the bus who starts talking to you might just turn out to be a life-changing genius!
I find that the office is rife with small talk and a little work related discussion thrown in for good measure. On those rare occassions when you do have a real conversation with a colleague and I don’t just mean a deep discussion on the meaning of life, you may find yourself talking a new idea into existence that will steer you just where you need to be.
I haven’t had such a conversation in my new job as of yet, but I think there is a good possibility of it as the office where I work is the most culturaly diverse one I have ever worked in. I’ve lost count of the number of nationalities working there. It’s amazing.
Anyway… Leave the office? I think it’s healthier for me not to think about this too much. The attachment to a particular goal in an imagined future can keep you from noticing opportunities and inspiration in the present.
As the lady in my life says “Don’t think too much!”
