Friday 10th December 2004

The red dust of Ban Lung, RattanakiriI'm feeling more human today, but very weak and I have decided to relax as much as possible with some light walking around town. I walked to the market and I got talking to a French couple in the hotel restaurant; they seemed very pleasant. Ban Lung is pretty unremarkable, but still no shortage of friendly faces accompanied by waving, smiles and "Hellos", which I suppose is what makes a place worth remembering anyway. By the evening I felt much better, but I was still experiencing occasional pains in the stomach. At least there were no emergency toilet missions necessary this time! The only fright has been a building up of very noxious wind a few times, which I just cannot let go in the company of others, it would just be too cruel, so I have had to walk out of the restaurant a couple of times tonight! I had dinner at the Mountain Guesthouse and a Beer Lao. Dinner was great value. I had fried vegetables with rice and including the beer it cost 6,500 riel. Less than £1!
